Placenta, published by Elsevier, is the official journal of the International Federation of Placenta Associations (IFPA). The journal publishes articles covering all aspects of the human and animal placenta including development, histology, physiology, metabolism, endocrinology, microbiology, pathology, immunology, pharmacology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular mechanisms underlying placental function. The total number of manuscripts submitted in 2016 was 527 and 200 manuscripts were accepted for publication.

The current editor for Asia/Pacific, Dr Vicki Clifton has indicated her desire to step down at the end of 2018. Therefore the publishers and IFPA are seeking to appoint a new Asia/Pacific editor for Placenta, to begin in January 2019. This individual will work alongside the current Editor for the Americas Dr Yoel Sadovsky and the Editor European region Dr Martin Knofler. The Asia/Pacific Editor received approximately 30% of the submissions (175 manuscripts) in 2016.

We are therefore seeking nominations for this editorial position. Desirable qualifications include a track record of accomplishment and peer recognition in the field of placental research coupled with a broad knowledge of science and its latest developments and a desire to increase the worldwide profile of placental research and Placenta in particular.  Editorial duties will be performed online with the assistance of the web-based Elsevier Editorial System. The Editors report to the Placenta Editorial Board, the publishers Elsevier and the IFPA Executive Committee. The traditional period of appointment has been 7 years.

Nominations will be handled by an IFPA appointed committee:

L. Myatt, Portland, USA (Chair)                       Y. Sadovsky, Pittsburgh, USA

M. Knofler, Vienna, Austria                             D. Hemmings, Edmonton, Canada

Y. Kudo, Hiroshima, Japan                              A. Jawerbaum, Buenos Aires, Argentina

G. Lash, Guangzhou, PRC                              L. Chamley, Auckland, New Zealand

Please send nominations and a letter of recommendation, which will be held in confidence, to

Dr Leslie Myatt at myattl@ohsu.edu

The committee will then contact the nominees to ask for a CV and vision statement.

The deadline for submission of nominations is March 31st 2018.
